The 306th essay has posted! Essay 1983 on 籠 (basket; cage; confinement; seclusion; to fill) is now available for purchase. Here's a preview:

Do you know about the kagome pattern or the “bird in the cage” game? Do you know who was called a “caged bird” or how insect cages influenced Kyoto architecture? Do you know how baskets helped when crossing valleys? With this essay you’ll learn all that plus terms for shutting oneself up in one’s study, bottling up discontent, and stammering. Oh, and several words for lanterns!

Using the accompanying game on the Character Home Page, you can practice the vocabulary in the essay after reading it.

Also, Ulrike created the following new-monics (which are free!):

焦 (1404: to scorch)
礁 (1413: reef)
零 (1922: zero)
賂 (1952: bribe)
恣 (2022: arbitrary)
